Innovative Ecommerce Trends to Boost Online Sales

Todd Davison | 6 September 2023 | 8 months ago

There is always something going on in the world of e-commerce, especially when it comes to online sales. E-commerce success relies on sales, and with so much competition out there, businesses need to do everything they can to capture as many online sales as possible. There are a variety of ways to boost online sales, but the innovative trends listed below really stand out as having a huge impact.

Social Commerce and Influencer Marketing

One of the biggest e-commerce trends of recent years is social commerce and influencer marketing. Both involve using social media platforms to boost brand awareness and to market products or services, which is why we have listed them together. Social commerce involves leveraging social media for direct sales and integrating this with an e-commerce website. This allows consumers to browse and buy without leaving the social media platform, which makes the entire shopping experience a lot more straightforward and simpler. It also capitalises on the fact that consumers tend to be familiar with social media platforms, so being able to purchase products without navigating to a separate website is appealing.

Collaborating with influencers is another e-commerce trend that a lot of brands are using to boost online sales. By collaborating with popular influencers, brands can target their followers on social media, knowing that they are likely to be engaged and convinced by what an influencer has to say. Influencers can be celebrities, bloggers, vloggers, or industry experts in specific niches, but they need to be relevant to what the business has to offer. An influencer can create content related to a product or service, and then share their opinions with their followers.

Mobile Commerce and Progressive Web Apps (PWAs)

A growing number of people are using smartphones and mobile devices to access the web, and so e-commerce has had to adapt. With mobile commerce, shoppers can buy products or enquire about services from their mobile devices, regardless of where they are. By visiting a website or business app, users can browse and buy on the go.

A lot of this relies on PWAs, which enable a business to release an app and have it added to users’ home screens. Users can shop online with fast loading speeds, which makes purchases quick and convenient. There is no need for someone to spend hours scouring the web when they have a PWA ready to use.

Virtual Events and Live Shopping

There has been a lot of focus on virtual reality (VR) in recent years, and VR technology has finally made its way to the world of e-commerce. Virtual events and live shopping are effective ways of boosting online sales, both of which can use VR to launch products and improve the appeal of live streams. Virtual events are online gatherings that make viewers feel as though they are experiencing the events in person. Conferences, webinars, workshops, and product launches are often hosted as virtual events. These events can be shown on various platforms, including video conferencing tools and social media. From there, users can immediately find out more about a product or make a purchase.

Live shopping works in a similar way. By broadcasting live video content, where hosts showcase products in real-time and interact with an online audience, viewers feel as though they are part of the shopping experience. This boosts online sales by making the most of engaged viewers, who are interested in the product at that exact moment.

AI-Powered Recommendations and Upselling

Using AI, e-commerce businesses can boost online sales by suggesting products to users based on their shopping and browsing history. AI uses data analysis and various algorithms to analyse a person’s browsing history, purchase behaviour and product preferences. Then it makes recommendations tailored to their individual needs, suggesting products that they are most likely to be interested in. AI also benefits upselling, which involves encouraging customers to purchase better versions of products that they are interested in, or products that could be beneficial based on what they’ve got in their basket. This strategy aims to increase the average transaction value by encouraging customers to spend more on their purchases.

Same-Day and One-Hour Delivery

There is no denying how frustrating it is to wait for a delivery, especially if it’s something that you are in desperate need of. For many years, consumers had to wait three to five business days after buying a product online for delivery, sometimes even longer. But what happens if you need the item much sooner than that, and online shopping is your only option? As e-commerce has developed, businesses quickly realised that the demand for fast and convenient delivery was growing.

This has led to a lot of e-commerce businesses offering same-day delivery, with some even offering one-hour delivery where possible. Quick delivery options are a fantastic way to boost online sales, as consumers are likely to choose the business that can ship products the fastest.

Voice Commerce

The rise of voice-enabled shopping has been huge in recent years, with a growing number of businesses optimising products for voice commerce. Voice commerce uses technology to enable consumers to make purchases using voice commands. This is done via virtual assistants and smart devices which use natural language processing and artificial intelligence. Voice commerce understands and responds to user requests, enabling a seamless shopping experience. There are a lot of reasons as to why voice commerce boosts online sales, and it’s largely due to how easy it makes shopping. Users can make purchases on the go, saving them time and energy.
