Our international supply chain expert: GT Nexus vice chairman and chief strategy officer Kurt Cavano

Logistics and trade processes can seem daunting at the beginning

I have more than 30 years of experience helping corporations improve their business performance through the intelligent application of technology. I currently serve as vice chairman and chief strategy officer of GT Nexus, with overall responsibility for driving the company’s strategic direction, for maintaining the company’s track record of innovation and market success, and for guiding key customer, industry and partner relationships.

GT Nexus is a cloud based supply chain platform provider based in the US, helping companies to manage their logistics and trade processes in the smartest and most efficient possible way. We work with businesses in nearly every sector, automating hundreds of supply chain processes on a global scale, across entire trade communities. Companies connect to GT Nexus just once, to collaborate and transact within and across multiple partner networks, on the same industry-wide platform.

In 1999 I established TradeCard (which merged with GT Nexus in April 2013). Under my leadership, TradeCard grew from a concept and a dozen employees to the leading financial supply chain platform with over 300 employees in locations throughout the United States as well as in Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul, Shenzhen, Colombo, and Amsterdam.

Prior to founding TradeCard, I was a vice president at American Management Systems, an international business and information technology consulting firm. I managed the corporate banking practice of the AMS Finance Industry Group globally. During 15 years at AMS I worked with financial institutions to improve their performance through the application of technology. Focusing in the international trade, cash management and securities processing areas, I spearheaded projects ranging from business strategy consulting to custom development and implementation. I also launched AMS’ British and Australian consulting practices, and worked with the international divisions of more than twenty-five global banks.

As well as being featured as one of World Trade Magazine’s 50 most influential people, I am a frequent speaker and writer on topics concerning international trade, global supply chain management and technology innovation. I spend much of my time coaching companies on how to best use technology to improve their global supply chain performance.

I have a BS in Bioscience from the Behrend College of Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from New York University Stern School. I was also awarded the honour of Alumni Fellow by the Pennsylvania State University in 2005.

I serve on several boards including the American Apparel and Footwear Association and the American Apparel Producers Network. I also serve as chairman of the Neptune Township Economic Corporation.
