I’m a senior product manager at Simply Business, with almost ten years of experience – both working and studying – in the insurance industry.
As one of the UK’s biggest business insurance providers, it’s both a challenge and a pleasure to work for a company that really looks to challenge the insurance industry stereotype and put the customer at the heart of all our decisions.
I’ve worked my way through the products team, starting as a product analyst in 2012 and currently managing the business insurance product. Simply Business can cover nearly 1,000 trade types – so we’re not doing too badly on the product front!
I’m often asked why I opted for a degree in insurance. And truth be told, I had initially planned to study construction management. Simply Business insure thousands of UK tradesmen and project managers – if things had worked out differently I could have been a customer.
With my sister studying the same course (I graduated with a BA in International Insurance and European Studies from the University of Limerick) and a brother working as loss adjuster, I first tasted the world of professional insurance at Cunningham Lindsey in Dublin.
Fast forward a number of years and my experience developing products for one of the UK’s biggest business insurance providers perhaps indicates I made the right choice.
Aside from the obvious perks of working for a company voted first place in The Sunday Times Best Companies to Work for 2015 list, I enjoy the blend of people that you find at our business.
We’re also hugely customer-focused at every level, and we’ll soon be moving the structure of how we work to help us design even better products for our customers. There’s a common goal throughout the business, and it’s rare to find that.
Outside of work I’m into my fitness, regularly playing Gaelic football, and I recently completed a bike ride for charity from the most southerly point in Ireland to the most northerly point – around 400 miles.
