As children begin to climb up the walls in excitement and last-second Amazon orders are desperately ordered with fingers crossed that theyll arrive in time, the final nugget in our series exploring small business in numbers is a real treat it’s the number of hours a certain celebrity is offering of their company in return for startup finance.
Crowdfunding supporter gifts have often ranged from the bizarre to the surreal, especially when it comes to food and drink. Last year saw Zach Brown entice funders with a potato-salad themed hat and a bite of the dish he was making and resulted in backing of $55, 000.
But this Christmas there’s a crowdfunding opportunity on offer which beats potato salad by far.
Nancy Dellolio the ex-girlfriend of former England manager Sven-Gran Eriksson and once a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing has created her own version of lemon liqueur Limoncello and is aiming to raise 70, 000 to get the drink into production.
Dellolio is seeking funding through crowdfunding platform BORN and offering any backers willing to pledge 2, 000 a whole 24 hours in her company in return for their support.
The site promises that funders will be able to make the most of the jet set and London life while sipping on Limonbello.
The drink is both organic and free of added sugar and the project’s BORN page highlights that it is much less acidic than many other alcoholic beverages.
But as of 23 December only 1, 545 of the 70, 000 cash injection requested had been pledged.
By turning to crowdfunding as a source of startup capital, Dellolio joins the ranks of the many celebrities who have successfully sought out this form of funding for their business ideas.
Retired NBA basketball player Shaquille O’Neal raised almost half a million dollars through kickstarter in two months of 2014 and used the funds to create a video game entitled ‘shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn.
Not all well-known names seeking business funding have been quite so fortunate though. Bjork’s 2013 campaign to raise money for Biophilia an app which taught science through music was shelved when it hadnt garnered much support in the first ten days.
That’s all entrepreneurial trivia we have for 2015 but therell be another small business advent calendar next December.
