What Makes a Good Website Design?

Business Advice | 8 December 2022 | 1 year ago

There are a lot of websites out there, all of which are slightly different in terms of design. This is because a website should clearly represent the business or brand, and it should showcase your unique offerings. However, there are four key things that make or break a website design.

For a website design to be good, it needs to be accessible to all and easy to use. It needs to be intuitive, skimmable and visually appealing. In this blog, we have taken a look at what makes a good website design.

Intuitive

It’s important for a website to have an intuitive design, and this is all about making it easy to use. This means that when a user sees the website, they know exactly how to use it. The design should be clear, straightforward and easy to navigate. It should allow users to concentrate on what they are doing – whether that’s looking for a service or product, or scouring the website for information – without having to stop, wondering what to do next.

Skimmable

A lot of people don’t have time to browse everything on a website, nor do they have time to read through long paragraphs of text, hoping to find what they are looking for. This is why a website should be skimmable. A skimmable website gives visitors the chance to see what is being said, without them having to read the page from top to bottom. Headings help a lot with this, as does whitespace and images. You should also think about the layout of each web page, and choose a layout that helps to direct the user’s focus.

Accessible

A growing number of people are heading online to find businesses, brands, products and services. If you want to appeal to a large audience, and you want to avoid limiting your potential customer base in any way, you need a website that is accessible to all. This means being accessible across a range of devices and browsers, and by those who are visually impaired. The more accessible your website, the more people who will be able to use it, and the more people who are willing to choose you over your competitors.

Beautiful

Having a website that’s functional and enjoyable to use is key, but that doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t also be visually appealing to visitors. A website that looks good will benefit your brand as a whole, as it shows that you have taken the time to create a website that is professional and unique. Your website is often the first thing someone sees of your business, and first impressions count. Plus, a beautiful website is more likely to attract and engage a customer, encouraging them to spend as long as possible on each page.
