Can You Delete Facebook Reviews in 2023?

Business Advice | 15 June 2023 | 10 months ago

There is no denying the importance of having a social media presence. Regardless of the business that you have and the industry that you work in, it’s a fantastic way to boost your brand and connect with your target audience. Of course, there are different aspects of social media marketing, and reviews are a huge part of that. Though a lot of what you do on social media as a business will centre around posting content and engaging with followers, reviews are also important. They are a way to show potential customers that you provide a high quality, professional and recommended service.

Reviews are a great way for people to share recommendations and experiences, and they can encourage other people to choose your business over a competitor. But, as a business owner, you may want to remove negative or inaccurate reviews. Not only could these create the wrong impression of your business, but it could prevent leads, sales and revenue growth by driving potential customers away.

Can I Delete Facebook Reviews?

Unfortunately, getting rid of Facebook reviews is not simply a case of hitting ‘delete’ on a review, as people have the right to read and express bad experiences. Plus, if you deleted all of your bad reviews, it’s likely that people might start to notice, making them less likely to believe what they are seeing online. If the review is a fair and accurate appraisal of a bad experience, you won’t be able to get it removed. Thankfully, this doesn’t mean you don’t have any recourse, and there are things that can be done.

What Can I Do About Bad Facebook Reviews?

Positive Facebook reviews can be a key part in acquiring new customers. Potential customers often research businesses before making a purchase decision, and positive reviews can influence their choice. One great review could be all it takes to sway someone into making a purchase, instead of ‘umming’ and ‘ahhing’ on the fence. Additionally, customers who have had a positive experience and leave reviews are more likely to become repeat customers and advocates for your brand, which can help with forecasting business growth.

Of course, not all reviews are good, and sometimes a bad Facebook review can appear. If this happens, there are a few things that you can do, and deleting them isn’t the only option.

Respond With Caution

When you are responding to a bad Facebook review, you should do so with caution. Write a considered response that takes account of the writer’s feelings, and don’t simply try to deny the facts or tell the writer that they’re wrong. This makes you seem defensive, and as though you have something to hide. Remember, everyone can see your response, and they could potentially judge you by what you write. It’s important to remain polite, even if the commenter did leave a review that you deem to be unfair. Your response should showcase you as a fair, understanding and professional business.

Flag the Review

You also have the option to flag the review, which will highlight the review to Facebook. Facebook removes reviews that are clearly inaccurate, wrong or trolling. Facebook has a specific procedure for this, and it’s up to Facebook to decide whether the review is removed or not. By flagging the review, you will be bringing it to their attention, and highlighting that it’s a review that you don’t think should be there. If you’re lucky, Facebook could take it down.

Disable All Reviews

As a more extreme option, you can disable reviews entirely. Though this will get rid of any bad Facebook reviews, it will remove any positives as well. This could look as though you have something to hide and it could do more harm than good, especially as many potential customers head to social media to see what other people had to say about a brand. Without any reviews, you might not look like an established and successful business, and there is no knowing if you have any happy customers at all.

Learn and Move On

Ultimately, if the review was fair, your best option is to learn and move on. Focus on improving your service and reducing the chances of a similar review cropping up in the future. Take what the writer has said on board and use their feedback to grow, evolve and improve your service. You should also consider apologising to the writer and thanking them for constructive feedback, and highlight how you will use their thoughts to improve going forward. This shows other people that you are aware of your mistakes and you are willing to make the necessary changes to ensure that similar things don’t happen again.

It can be disappointing to receive a negative review on Facebook, but try to focus on how important reviews are in general. Facebook reviews serve as social proof for your business, and they can help you to stand out in a saturated market. Positive reviews from satisfied customers can influence potential customers to trust your brand, make a purchase or use your services. When people see that others have had a positive experience with your business, it builds credibility and fosters trust, and they are more likely to choose you. Facebook reviews also provide valuable feedback and insights from your customers. They can offer suggestions for improvement, highlight areas of strength and provide specific examples of how your business has met their needs. This feedback can help you refine your products, services and customer experience to better serve your target audience in the future.
