EU referendum
Some 70 per cent of small business owners disagreed with the statement that uncertainty around Brexit was holding them back
The majority of the owners of Britain’s smallest firms are powering on ahead with decision making despite the looming Brexit vote, new polling by Business Advice has revealed.

The survey of more than 100 small and micro business owner/managers, some 70 per cent disagreed with the statement that uncertainty on the referendum result was stopping them from making decisions on the future of their small business.

“Despite recent comments from Bank of England governor Mark Carney, and constant bickering between the two lobbying organisations, small businesses appear to be remarkably unperturbed by the Brexit debate, said Business Advice editor, Hunter Ruthven.

“Whether the UK votes to remain or leave on 23 June, leaders at the helm of micro and small businesses have told us fairly emphatically that it’s not holding back decision making.

“At our inaugural Small Business School event on 14 June, when the referendum will be only a week away, we’ll be uncovering why the topic isn’t causing more sleepless nights amongst the small business community.”

The survey results followan exclusive interview Business Advice carried out recently with small business minister Anna Soubry, in which she warned that small firm owners could suffer in the event of a Brexit.

all the surveys and polling on Brexit so far suggests itll be tight as to which way the vote goes, but it’s a very small proportion of the country’s business owners that have voted, Soubry said.

the vast majority of small business owners I speak to want to stay in, and in order to get people voting on 23 June, these voices need to be heard.

Britain will go to the polls on the issue on 23 June 2016 and will be voting on whether to continue the European Union membership which Britain has held foralmost 50 years.
