How Businesses Can Save On Their Energy Costs This Winter

Business Advice | 1 November 2022 | 1 year ago

Thru spiralling energy costs, a lot of people are feeling the pinch. This isn’t just the case for homeowners and tenants, it’s also the case for businesses of all shapes and sizes. So, it makes sense that a lot of business owners will be wondering how to save on their energy bills.

Turn Off at Night

A lot of people have smart metres installed at home, but these are also available for businesses. With a smart metre, you can easily determine which appliances use the most energy, which will help you to cut down on your energy use in an effective way. One of the simplest ways to reduce your energy costs is by swapping to energy efficient light bulbs and motion triggered lights, and ensuring all lights are off at night. You should also turn the heating off at night and make sure that all devices are on standby. There is no need to be using a lot of energy at night if your business is empty. Instead, turn everything off before you leave for the day.

Insulate Your Premises

There is no denying that heating is one of the major expenses during the winter, which is why cutting down on how much you use is one of the top business energy saving tips. You can significantly reduce your business energy prices by insulating your premises. Swapping to double glazing is one of the most effective ways of insulating your premises, as it helps to keep the heat in and the cold out.

Speak to Your Energy Supplier

If you are struggling with business energy prices, you should speak to your energy supplier. There are a lot of grants and support available to those who are unable to afford the rising costs. Your energy supplier should know if you are eligible for any support.

Clean

A lot of people underestimate the importance of cleaning and rearranging furniture, both of which can help to reduce business energy prices. Small tasks such as cleaning out the fridge and freezer, and moving furniture away from radiators and external doors makes a big difference. When furniture is away from radiators, the heat is able to circle the room effectively. When it’s away from external doors, employees are away from draughts and breezes.

Reduce Water Usage

Though the cost of water is not directly linked to the rising energy prices, reducing the amount of water that you are using will help to reduce bills overall. The money you save on reduced water usage could help to cover the cost of increased energy costs.

Energy Audit

Knowing where to reduce the cost of energy can be difficult, especially if you are not sure what’s making your usage so high. Conducting an energy audit is a good way to find opportunities to reduce costs, and it will highlight if your business could be using energy more effectively.
