4 quick ways to use smarter marketing strategies to drive festive sales

Staff writer | 22 September 2026 | 2 weeks ago

For retailers, the period between Halloween to New Year’s Eve represents the biggest shopping days of the year. This is when businesses can make the most money, but smarter marketing strategies will help them not only target customers, but preserve the relationship long-term.

The strong link between smarter marketing strategies and higher sales comes from new Intuit Mailchimp research. It found that targeted emails drove 11% higher average order value while email personalisation led to a 10% higher order value than others. It also found that first-time buyers accounted for 63% of email orders and nearly 62% of SMS orders during Black Friday and Cyber Monday for UK businesses.

This is how your business can use smarter marketing strategies to stand out from the festive competition.

1. Make your messages more targeted

Personalise your marketing emails, as this can drive a higher order value. Consider using abandoned cart content blocks in your campaigns which displays the items a shopper left behind in their online cart. This is a way of using customer data and automation to target shoppers with relevant messaging.

2. Keep up email and SMS comms

Email and SMS are both effective forms of communication to capture customer attention, but they serve slightly different yet complementary purposes. Email can keep communication going long-term while SMEs can capture attention during time-sensitive sales moments.

3. Experiment with generative AI emails

Generative AI can help marketers create high performing content by frequently testing what does and doesn’t work with less time spent by teams on producing email marketing content. AI helps them quickly create and test email content from subject lines to calls to action and images.

4.  Keep up the momentum at weekends

Weekend customer order rates can outperform the weekdays, because customers have more free time to browse online. This is why businesses should send more, rather than less, messages during weekends.
